Hi, I'm Elizabeth

I'm your guide on your vocal journey

I work with singers - Voice Students of all ages, Singing Teachers and Choristers - basically anyone who LOVES to Sing and wants to free their voice.

Your instrument is YOU! Voice, Body and Mind. I use my training in voice pedagogy, personal training, stress resiliency and nutrition to help singers become resilient, vibrant, confident performers full of vitality on and off the stage.

I help you discover the steps you need to:

  • feel inspired so that you can unlock your creativity
  • become a fearless performer full of confidence on and off the stage
  • thrive by reducing the risk of vocal injury through good technique and healthy lifestyle practices
  • optimize immunity so that you don’t have to worry about getting sick before performances
  • develop a positive mindset that will allow your talents to flourish

I've been there.

I was that kid that was told I sing too loud. I was that kid who became painfully shy. I was that high school graduate that was told I needed to have a university degree to get a “real job”.

But I also had very encouraging singing teachers that kept the passion for singing alive, even through an undergrad degree in biochemistry, to persevere and get my singing diploma in performance and pedagogy from The Royal Conservatory of Music.

So I became that performer rushing from a day job to evening rehearsals, skipping meals or just grabbing some fast food, no weekends off, avoiding sick castmates like the plague, feeling the overwhelming nerves of auditions and performances.

My own health took a turn for the worse after an injury at the pharmaceutical company where I worked left me with chronic back pain that made it difficult to sing and dance. My health worsened with a number of inflammatory conditions. I was tired and constantly getting sick. It was at this point I turned to teaching voice.

Things turned around after I started training for triathlon and overhauled my diet to a whole food plant-based way of eating. I was no longer getting sick, all my inflammatory conditions disappeared, my voice grew stronger and more vibrant and my energy went through the roof!

More than just a singer.

This inspired me to learn all I could about fitness, health, and nutrition; and how it relates to the voice. I've helped many singers to better vocal and bodily health and want to help as many singers to get an edge at accessing their true potential and confidence through a healthy lifestyle.

I bring over twenty years of experience as a voice teacher, a lifetime of experience as a singer and a long standing passion for health.

All my training and background give me a unique insight into what's required to make the "total package" that's sought after in a singer.

Official biography

Picture
Elizabeth Rotoff is a voice teacher and healthy lifestyle trainer for singers, with a multi-faceted career.

She has been a private voice teacher for over 20 years. She teaches students of all ages. Many of her students have gone on to study voice at the university level in the disciplines of classical music, musical theatre and jazz.  She is an active member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers’ Association.  She is sought after as an adjudicator and clinician. Elizabeth, as a mezzo-soprano, has performed across Canada and in England in opera, musical theatre and recital. She has had leading roles in operas including Carmen, The Tales of Hoffman, La Clemenza di Tito, Cosi fan tutte, Die Fledermaus, Hansel and Gretel, The Medium and many more.

The Edmonton Sun stated that her performance was riveting and that she has a haunting mezzo voice.  The Bognor Regis Observer (England) reported, “The range of her powerful voice, coupled with an obvious deep understanding of the poetry made a memorable experience for the appreciative audience.”  Opera Today said of her performance in Lennox Berkley’s A Dinner Engagement, “She was brilliantly haughty and convincingly statuesque”.

Elizabeth has a strong passion for fitness and nutrition. As a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, and triathlete, she works with singers to develop a healthy lifestyle that will free their voice and optimize their instrument for perfomance in singing. Elizabeth has taken her expertise as voice teacher and health coach to be wellness consultant for Resonanz Opera in Ohio. She has also been a presenter at NATS events at the local and national levels and the 2019 Canadian Federation of Music Teacher’s Associations National Conference.

Combining her knowledge, experience and passion for both singing and fitness, it seemed only natural to start The Fit Singer to help her students and other singers become the best possible instruments for their art.
